one month

Today, you turned one month! This past month has been, well, I am not sure it can be described in one or two words. The first couple weeks were definitely two of the hardest in my life. The constant feedings, the pain I had to endure to recover and to just get my body used to being the food source for you, it was all very overwhelming. Fortunately, I had Jay's support and my family's support - in particular, Grammie's, who came over pretty much every day since you were born to cook for us, clean (and paint) for us, and help us take care of you.

At one month, you can be a bit of a challenge. Easy is not a word we use to describe you. You cry a lot and we are still trying to figure out why. We continue to try different things and hope that someday soon we will have it all figured out. My latest epiphany is that you need a lot more sleep than I realized so we are letting you do that and attempting to get you to sleep before you become overtired. It also appears that you just have trouble getting soothed. The pacifier seems to help a lot but it can be difficult to get you to take it at times. But even over the past couple days, things are seeming better. Have no fear, we will get there!

Dislikes:
  • Having shirts pulled over your head.
  • Being put in your car seat - it just takes you a while to get used to the change in position but you usually settle down eventually.
Well, there are many more dislikes we believe, but we can't really tell. Again, I promise we are working hard to figure it out!

Likes:
  • Getting held upright with your head over someone's shoulder.
  • Baths.
  • Getting your diaper changed! For some reason, once we get you on that changing table, you are the calmest baby for however long you are on it (minus when we pull a shirt over your head).
  • Looking at people's faces, especially ones that are fresh to you.

Milestones:

You are now able to see a lot farther and like to look about and see who is around. You can now turn your head to look around too and so you are starting to do that a lot more often. Your neck is getting stronger. You have in the past couple days started standing on your legs when you are held up. We are also starting to see glimmers of smiles.

Congrats to all of us on getting through the first month! Can't wait to see what month 2 brings.
