eighteen months

At eighteen months, you are quite the little person.

You like to learn.  You know many, many words.  You are starting to put words together - "Hi Daddy" was your first combination we can recall.  You have a great memory.  We have these little books for each of the letters with pictures of three things starting with the letter (courtesy of Great Aunt Kelly) and we find it remarkable how many pictures you can remember the names for - ice cream, icicles, island.

You know some shapes - circle, heart, star, octagon, triangle, oval.  Square, rectangle, and diamond are still tough but we can see why.  You are also learning colors - you know blue, green, and red.

As I mentioned in my prior post, you are obsessed with modes of transportation.  On our way to school, you point out all the buses you see.  You will say "busssss, busssss, busssss" until I acknowledge it too.  Sometimes you also rotate your arms around like the wheels for the wheels on the bus song.  You also like cars, airplanes, trains, and bicycles.  You now understand that people on bicycles wear not simply hats, but helmets.

You understand use of the possessive.  This is Momma but the car is Momma's.

Speaking of which, you can finally say Grammie!  For a while you were calling her "me."  You also know how to say Grandma (for Daddy's mom).  Learning these distinctions has also led you to start calling me Mommy the past couple days.  Up until now, you have always called me Momma despite us always referring to me as Mommy.  It actually makes me sad because it is an evident sign that you are growing up. 

You have started singing.  Your favorite song to sing is Happy Birthday.  You can sing the happy, the to you, and the dear X.  You like to sing it to different people.  We will ask you who we should sing it to - the vast majority of the time, you say Elodie first, and then Papa.  And then Elodie or Papa again, until we say no, someone else!  You also know parts of the ABCs and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

Elodie is always the answer to questions you are asked starting with Who.  Who will you see at school today?  Elodie!  Who is going to be home soon?  Elodie!  Who are you obsessed with?  Elodie!

Papa once said something like you warm people up.  You really do.
